Circularity - Ensuring raw material availability

We have a long history in sustainable entrepreneurship and have great ambitions to build a sustainable, circular future. Until 2023, all new Wienerberger products will be 100% recyclable or re-usable as this significantly prolongs their service life. At the same time, we are continuously increasing the amount of secondary or recycled raw materials used in production.

Promoting a circular economy

A win-win situation for all

To ensure long-term availability of raw materials as well as to support the European Comission's goal of a climate neutral circular economy, we are increasingly and continuously implementing the following measures:

  • Sustainable raw material extraction
  • Reduction and re-use of production waste
  • Focus on products that can be re-used or recycled:
Our product portfolio increasingly contains circular construction systems for modular construction, reusable products and residual material.

With these actions, we achieve a higher security of long-lasting raw material supply and less pressure on the environment.

"By 2023, 100% of our new products are designed to be reusable or recyclable."

From paver to paver

A product family of the Semmelrock concrete paver segment is certified according to the Cradle to Cradle® concept. The international certification confirms the existence of a closed-loop production system. We are working to offer all our wall products in the near future according to the Cradle to Cradle® concept.

ClickBrick

Wienerberger ClickBrick is a unique, circular building system for dry stacking of bricks. It is an easy way to quickly build aesthetically appealing facades without the use of mortar or glue. Demounting and remounting somewhere else made possible with the ClickBrick - for a circular construction.

CicloBrick

Demolition waste turned into bricks: The CicloBrick facing brick contains 20% ceramic residues reclaimed through urban mining and was developed in partnership with the Urban Mining Collective of New Horizon. By using secondary raw materials reclaimed through urban mining, we reduce the volume of ceramic waste and thus promote a closed material cycle while the life expectancy of the bricks remains the same.

LEADAX Roov

As one of the most sustainable flat roofing membranes on the market, LEADAX Roov is ideal for flat house owners who want to reduce their impact on the environment. It is made from 100% recycled plastic PVB waste, waterproof and sun reflecting. After its life expectancy, it can be recycled into a new roofing membrane - truly a circular product!
