Clay products – made with long-term success in mind

Particularly green and sustainable building materials

Clay blocks, bricks and roof tiles as well as clay pavers represent particularly green and sustainable building materials. They consist of natural raw materials such as clay and water, which are extracted carefully. They are produced in close proximity to the market, which helps keep the transportation distances short. Furthermore, they have a very long service life – easily lasting for over 150 years. The longer the service life, the smaller is the impact of the material on the environment.

These are only some of the reasons why our clay products constitute an integral part of Wienerberger’s sustainable building concepts. They guarantee a high quality of living and make an active contribution to the fight against climate change.

Longevity

Our products have a very long service life

Longevity is an important parameter when determining how sustainable a construction material actually is. Over the entire lifetime, the impact on the environment stemming from the production process is very low. Our products have a very long service life; there are numerous examples of buildings constructed with clay materials which have easily lasted for over 150 years. The longer the service life, the smaller is the impact of the material on the environment.

The e4 brick house concept

E4 house concept

The Wienerberger e4 house concept was developed with the 2020 building directive by the European Union in mind, aiming towards energy-efficiency and sustainable building, reducing the emission of greenhouse gases by 20% and increasing the amount of utilized renewable energies by 20%.

Wienerberger has developed the e4 concept with experts to offer families an energy-efficient, healthy as well as affordable house. It reflects the growing wish of many private home-builders to make a statement in support of climate protection, while simultaneously realizing their own plans. The e4 concept was already successfully implemented for single-family homes in Austria, Germany, France, Romania, and Hungary and multi-family homes in Belgium and UK.

Research and development

Key role in our company

Research and development play a key role in our company. At Wienerberger, R&D is managed centrally, but most of the results achieved are implemented locally. We operate five research centers all over Europe, each of them specializing in a different product group.  All research is done with sustainability in mind.  The FEM (Finite Element Method) is used in order to optimize production costs, especially in the roof sector.
